My Personal Statement
What I enjoy about film as a subject is how It brings people of all races and genders together to help create an inspiring piece of media that will help connect anyone from any walk of life to something they love. Such as the Star Wars and marvel franchises the way the directors use the camera to create dreams for the millions I will never understand, but I can hope to be a part of that. The way I can make that dream come true is by going to your University. What I hope to gain from university is experience and an understanding of the film industry by working on productions in both production crew and post production positions to gain the experience I need to have a potential career after university.
I am currently studying a level 3 extended diploma in creative media and the college of west Anglia and have also have a level 3 diploma for creative media level 3, during this course I have worked as a camera man for my fellow classmates and have also worked in sound and lighting departments for my fellow class mates and other subject groups in the college.
I also studied product design during my GCSEs to help understand the large-scale production of sets and scenes for the film industry The skills designated for a career in the media industry are in the plenty but over the years I have been given responsibilities and have volunteered in either media related productions and non-media related programmes and projects but the skills I have gained from these experiences can all relate back to the Film industry in one way or another.
I was a backstage manager for my high schools Tech Crew from 2014 to 2018 and I held the responsibility to organise both cast and crew during a large-scale production of a live show, by having this responsibility. I also joined the NCS (National Citizen Service) program in 2018 as a participant of the program then I volunteered twice as mentor to the participants during April 2019 and summer 2019 the skills this sort of volunteer work gives you are mainly the ability to work under stress and act as group to complete a task. These qualities I have listed relate to the media industry in so many ways as in the industry you must be able to work well in a team with good communication to complete a task to a deadline. I have also volunteered at Springboard TV doing both editing and production elements0 get a feel for what the industry might give me, from, doing this work with springboard tv I have learnt how to edit in many different ways such as multi-camera editing and filming and the ability to work in a production crew with a deadline, by working in a production crew and working on the editing suite I understand both sides of the production process I think all these experiences and skills are all relatable to a career in the film industry as in the industry you must work to a deadline and you have to work well in a team and in connection leadership skills.
After University I hope to gain even more experience about the film industry by either volunteering as much as I can to gain more experience and more skills that I can take on to future potential careers in the future. The film industry is complex area to work in, but I am hard working, determined and a team player and I hope these qualities will help to expand my knowledge and my skill set in this ever-expanding industry where I hope to find my place in.
